Happiness is elusive. But joy isn’t.

Happiness is touted as being some great thing that we should strive for, seek after and attain. Happiness at work. Happiness in relationships. But Happiness is a fickle mistress. She changes with each differing circumstance. For all our lifelong efforts in pursuit of her, we are often left feeling like a failure because we never achieved the level of happiness we sought.

But Joy, joy is always attainable. Because unlike it’s flighty companion, Happiness, joy is a choice we make, not an emotion we feel. Regardless of circumstances, health, location, profession – regardless of anything – we can choose Joy. We may have to choose it over an over again. It may need to be the first choice we make as our feet hit the floor each morning, but oh, what a valuable choice it is! And much more lasting.
