Quiet mornings are for the birds. And me.

It’s June. How did that happen?

I’m sitting out on my front porch. The sky is a bit gray but the temperature is perfectly moderate and there’s a nice breeze from the south. The birds are singing in all their glory, a symphony of chirps and whistles. And my own little vultures are lazing about eating cereal and arguing over cartoons. A typical summer morning.

Summer is hard for me. During the school year, I am alone all day – an introvert’s dream come true! I can work, rest and recharge all during the hours my family is gone. But in the summer, solitude is very hard to find and feeling fully rested and recharged escapes me.

That’s why I relish early mornings on the porch, coffee in hand.
