Making photos just for me. What a relief.

I love creating the images I want to create. I enjoy photography so much more when I don’t try to conform to the expectations of others. So, why do I so often fall into that trap?

It’s been nearly a decade since I began accepting clients, and in that time, I’ve shot a little bit of everything. I could tell right away that some things were not my cup of tea: newborns, weddings, etc. Some things were just so-so. I didn’t love them, but I didn’t hate them either.

The images I make for myself are so drastically different than the images I make for my clients. I can feel a shift. I’m not sure I want to continue client work the way I’ve been doing it for the past decade. I have a few ideas that would lead me in a different direction, toward teaching.

I’ve actually been teaching photography online for close to seven years so it’s not a new thing, but I’m brainstorming some things that would be a little unique and focus more on an in person approach.

In the meantime, it’s nice to have this blog to share my heart and the images that really speak to me personally.
